Events like the all-state choir, all-state band, honor choir, and honor band provide invaluable opportunities for students in the Lowry High School music program, which consists of individuals who are passionate about their craft.

“There were a lot more people who really, really cared about band and music and put a lot of effort into it,” said Honor Band attendee Presley Hoyt.

These experiences not only enhance their musical skills but also promote personal growth. For many years, students have had the opportunity to participate in trips to Elko and Las Vegas, thanks to the efforts of dedicated music educators.

“The trips to Honor Choir and All-State Choir were fun because I got to see new places,” said Honor Choir and All-State Choir Attendee Trinity Green.

Participating in All-State and Honor ensembles is not just about showcasing musical talents; it’s also about building community and making lifelong friendships.

“Honestly, it was fun. I got to meet new people, and it was an experience I’ll never forget,” said Honor Choir attendee Aria Casteel.

Many students perceive these events as opportunities to excel in their craft, following their love of music.

“I auditioned because of the love I have for band and music,” said Honor Band attendee Presley Hoyt.

Munk, the band director, noted, “Honor and all-state ensembles are a great way for students in rural Nevada to participate in larger ensembles that they normally wouldn’t get to perform with.” He explained that these groups require an audition, so you generally get the top music students from the region involved.

He also highlighted the advantages of mentorship in these programs.

“Students get to work with top-notch conductors, often referred to as clinicians, who can provide high-level training for the select students that often is unavailable at home,” said Munk.

Munk highlighted the collaborative aspect of these events

“Students get to perform with students from across the region or state in a concert at the end of these events.”
