Varsity baseball makes regionals with successful record

Varsity baseball has had a successful season with 14 wins. They pushed through the hard losses and celebrated the wins with pride. Coach Brent Riemersma has coached for eight years, two on the varsity, and is dedicated to the team doing as much as he can as a coach to help his athletes get better.

“I started coaching because I love baseball,” said Riemersma. “I think it is one of the hardest sports to play and be good at.”

The team’s dedication is evident. The baseball team made it to regionals for the first time in many years. Gabriel Lange has been on the team for four years and has played baseball since childhood.

“This year we’ve felt closer,” said Lange. “We all came in with a positive attitude, and I think that’s what got us to regionals.”

Coach Riemersma believes it was the leadership of the student-athletes that got the team through this season.

“We just had the right guys for the team this year,” said Riemersma. “Having Connor, Tre, and Gabe to help lead the team makes my job a little easier.”

Senior Angus Boyles was second in 3A state-wide in the number of batters struck out, with 70 in the season. Junior Erick Valencia is ranked twenty-fifth statewide in runs with 41 this season.

Seniors: Trevor Crawford, ReiCyan Grau, Zaq Growcock, Aidan Tregellas, Jayce Casalez, Kayd Garner, Gabriel Lange, Angus Boyles, Caleb Sanders, and Matthew Casalez.
