Varsity softball preview

The Lady Bucks softball team is back in action and ready to have another successful season.

Coached by Ty Lucas and Jaime Billingsley, this year’s softball team is looking strong with the return of nine seniors: Angie Herrera, Ashley Lombardi, Heather McElvain, Kayla Doyle, Taylor Johnson, Shannon McClellan, Madi Gonzalez, Hana Etcheverry, and Sydnie Sundahl. With the addition of four former JV players, Jordan Mecham (Jr.), Cassie Klemish (Jr.), Carli Evatz (Jr.), and Ere Higbee (So.), along with freshman Shelby McKinnon to fill out the roster, the girls are looking to do some damage this year in their league.

“We’re really experienced, we have nine seniors,” said senior Taylor Johnson, “we’re looking really good early in the season.”

With last year ending the way it did; the girls being in first place going into the last games of the season only to be beaten by White Pine and kicked out of the playoffs, the returning varsity players are looking to avenge last year’s upset with big wins throughout the season.

“[White Pine] is all we think about,” said senior Shannon McClellan.

“[White Pine] is going to be the team to beat for us this year,” said Kayla Doyle.

The crossover teams (Fallon, Fernley, and Dayton) are looking to be the toughest games of the season as far as league play goes for the Lady Bucks, but the team is looking to just work hard on defense and play good softball in order to win these games.

The ultimate goal for the softball team is to win state, and this group of girls is more than determined to do just that.
