Varsity track travels to Carson High meet

The varsity track team traveled to Carson City for the Carson Invitational to compete against Division 1 schools on Saturday, April 23.

The women’s 4×100 relay team consisting of Madison Montero, Tatyana Carlson, Hailey Fernandez, and Rachel Garrison, placed 4th overall with a time of 53.00. The 4×200 relay finished 1st overall with Jillian Albright, Fernandez, Shelby Garrison, and Montero contributing to a combined time of 1:50.79 seconds. The 4×800 relay team finished with a time of 11:50.00 giving Brenda Martinez, Munroe, Martinez, and Brook Hansen 4th place medals.

Kenadee Jeppsen tied for first with Brianna Castiblanco from Reno High in the high jump competition with a height of 5ft. Jeppsen finished 2nd in the long jump followed by Albright in 9th. Dylan Kalkoske led the way for the boy’s long jumpers for Lowry placing 25th followed by Dowd in 34th and Nathan Kepler in 36th.

In the 100 meters for boys, Erick Lopez placed 13 with a time of 11.37. Jacob Frazier placed 38 and Kyle Lovell was 59th overall. In the women’s 100, Shelby Garrison placed 14th with a time of 13.87 followed by Tatyana Carlson in 18th and Audrey Snow in 22nd seconds within each other.

In the men’s 200 race, Micah Avalos led the way for Lowry coming in 34th with a time of 25.27 seconds followed by Camerino DeLamora for a place of 38. Hailey Fernandez placed 8th in the 200 with a time of 27.72 seconds followed by Snow in the 15 spot and Juli Garcia in the 39th spot.

Will Kracaw saw a time of 11:12.93 for the 3200 meter race to place him 14th overall followed by Liam Gallups in 29th and Gildone in 35th. Kuskie placed 4th in the 3200-meter race with a time of 12:43.44.

Gallups also finished 31 in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 73.26 seconds.

Lopez, Frazier, DeLamora, and Devin Dowd competed in the men’s 4×100 relay and came in 11th with a time of 47.39. The same relay team competed in the 4×200 with a 10th-place finish. In 11th place, Frazier, Avalos, DeLamora, and Juanes finished the 4×400 men’s relay with a time of 3:54.93 seconds.

Rachel Garrison finished 8th in discus with a throw of 98-03 followed by Willey with a throw of 76-06. Terry finished 8th in the men’s discus with a throw of 140-08.

Albright placed 5th in the triple jump followed by Jeppsen in 6th separated by centimeters. Danielle White placed 20th in the triple jumps as well.

In the women’s pole vault competition, Montero led the way with an 8th place finish clearing 8ft followed by White in 14th and Martinez in 18th.

Dowd finished 8th in the men’s pole vault followed by Lovell finishing 20th.

As the season grows closer to the regional meet every athlete is working harder and harder to qualify for a spot to prove themselves.

“Every race is a new opportunity to compete and to push yourself. Our goal as a program is to get as many kids to qualify for the regional and state meets. Usually, we only have a handful of kids by the time state rolls around and we really want those numbers to grow,” said Snow.

The Bucks will continue their season trying as they hold their home track meet on Saturday, April 30.

Kepler finished 18th in the men’s triple jump followed by Kalkoske in 23rd.

Whitney Willey placed 41st in shotput for the women’s and Bryan Terry placed 16th for the men’s.

Oscar Juanes was the only Lowry runner to place in the 400 men’s race in the 31 spot with a time of 57.63 seconds. Three girls competed in the 400-meter race. Shelby Garrison placed 7th with a time of 63.44 seconds followed by Macy Munroe in 20th and Garcia in 28th.

Rebecca Kuskie finished 15th in the 800 meters with a time of 2:37.15 and Melanie Martinez finished 32nd.

Will Kracaw finished the 1600-meter race with a time of 5:05.51 to give him the 22 spot followed by Joe Gildone with a time of 5:15.72 good enough to place him 34th overall.
