The heavy-hitting movie that struck many as a rise to glory came out on December 20. 2011.
Tommy Conlon (Tom Hardy) who was a former Marine was haunted by a tragic past. He returns home, due to his best friend’s death, having has his father (Nick Nolte) train him once again. He was once the wrestling champion of his high school and is hoping to keep the number one title.
Brendan Conlon (Joel Edgerton) is his brother who he lost contact with many years ago. Hoping to reconnect with Tommy (Hardy) he visits him. Only to realize he isn’t the same, due to the tragic events. Brendan (Edgerton) has always been the underdog and never was good enough for his dad. After getting suspended from his job for fighting he too starts training.
They both start training for a big event called Sparta. Tommy is only joining it to get all of his anger out, and Brendan is doing it for the money because his little girl had a rare heart condition and in order to save her they spent all their money causing them to lose their house. Hoping to regain everything that was lost, the two brothers climb to the top for the win. Where they must fight one another for the ultimate prize.
This is a must-watch movie due to its suspense throughout the whole movie. It is big on brotherhood and putting family before money. The conflict between the brothers, and their dad and the important losses they all experience really gets to you. It grabs your attention and keeps you on the edge of your seat. The ending is what made the movie. If you want to know what happens you must watch it, and you will not be disappointed.
