“War is coming”

Picture this, family intrigue, epic love, complex politics, fiercely independent women, an unfair class system and some crazy magic all melted together to create an incredible show that’s basically like “The West Wing” placed in Middle Earth.  Based on George R.R. Martin’s series of fantasy novels, “Game of Thrones” is a fantasy drama aired on HBO. The series takes place on the fictional continents of Westeros and Essos, simultaneously interweaving various plotlines. The first concentrates on the several noble houses fighting in a civil war to claim the Iron Throne of the Seven Kingdoms. The second documents the rising threat of mythical creatures and winter in the North. And the last follows the journey of the exiled princess, and rightful heir to the Iron Throne, Daenerys Targaryen.

In the Seven Kingdoms, the ultimate power derives from the king on the Iron Throne and descends through the Great Houses that rule different regions in the continents. There are nine Great Houses each with is own strengths, attitudes, and morals. The plot twists in the show take the viewer on a suspenseful ride, never hinting at what may lie ahead. With an array of mythical creatures and characters that you either want to strangle or hug, it’s no wonder the show has gained the following it has.

The fourth season of “Games of Thrones” is set to air on HBO on April 17, 2014. The trailer for the new season showcases the Great Houses preparing for a war that is unlike anything they’ve witnessed before. All the characters are back, new love interests arise, old enemies return, and families must battle to keep their houses from falling. So, run over to Netflix catch up before the new season starts, and decide which Great House, you’re rooting for. Personally, I believe the “Mother of Dragons” and “The Last Targaryen”, Daenerys will reclaim her throne that was unjustly ripped from her family because she’s just that awesome.
