Have you ever moved to a new school? Cady (pronounced Katie) Heron has returned from Africa to attend high school in North Shore. I know what you’re thinking and Karen Smith spells out your concerns, “If she’s from Africa then why is she white?”
In possibly one of the most hysterical movies, “Mean Girls” brings to light life in high school. Although it dramatizes life in high school it portrays how teenagers act. “Mean Girls” should be a movie watched by all teenagers.
Cady’s parents are zoologists and have spent the last sixteen years in Africa studying animals. Living in the jungle is nothing compared to going to North Shore High School. Cady has to immediately find a clique in order to survive. She meets two friends, Janis and Damian, who help her understand high school life.
One day, Cady is asked to sit with the Plastics, Regina George, Karen Smith and Gretchen Wieners, the most popular girls in school who everyone admires. They immediately let her into the group. She becomes the fourth plastic and Regina’s new best friend. When Regina finds out that Cady likes her ex-boyfriend Regina plans to destroy Cady’s social future.
Deceivingly, Cady is a spy for Janis and Damian and they plan the downfall of Regina George. Cady’s claws come out and a war in “Girl World” breaks out. The hilarious war then turns into a group therapy session where all junior girls go into the gym.
“Mean Girls” is the most quotable movie out there. It is a movie that summarizes life at high school and the push for us to find our “cliques”. Cady, in the end, realizes that it is not about fitting in but being the person you want to be, even if it means being on the high school ‘mathletes’. It makes a great social statement about the importance of one’s identity.
The movie is rated PG-13. Directed in 2004 by Mark Waters, it stars Lindsay Lohan, Rachel McAdams, Tina Fey, and Amanda Seyfried to make up an amazing cast. The movie is enjoyable to watch and reaches out to the teenage girl population. I think that everyone should go out and watch it. I give this movie a 10 out of 10.
