What you don’t know about your teachers

What you don’t know about your teachers

If you do not think teachers actually have lives outside of school, think again. Believe it or not, Lowry High School might just have the most interesting staff around.

For instance, did you know that Mrs. Alexis Mattson tore her ACL trying out for the College of Southern Idaho women’s basketball team?

“My first year of college at CSI, I blew my ACL trying out for basketball. I was coming down with a defensive rebound, and another girl ran into me and landed on my knee. I had to get surgery shortly after,” explained Mattson.

Along with ACL injuries, Mrs. Rebecca Hill also tore hers in a dirtbike wreck. When she was younger, she used to do desert racing with dirtbikes.

In high school, many of our teachers actually had lives, which is hard to believe. Mrs. Shelby Ruff was on the speech team in high school, and Ms. Julia Topholm was on the Dickinson Homecoming Court for her two years in college (2003-2004). Mr. Rob Silva used to do fencing, “like with swords,” and even made it to the Junior Olympics as a pro-fencer.

Don’t ever ask Mr. Grant Beatty for an opinion on a color, because he is color blind. Mrs. Roxanne Hardy is a quarter Arabian, and Mrs. Miranda Santos has some family in Ireland that she visits for months at a time.

If this next one doesn’t surprise you, will anything? When Mr. Taua Cabatbat was asked about an interesting fact from his life, he answered that he likes to sit around in his living room and headbutt his kids.

And now for the most interesting one yet, our homie rule enforcer, Mr. Ray Parks, is the Board Chairman of the Winnemucca Boys & Girls Club and is also a volunteer fireman. What a guy!

That’s a little sneak peek into the lives of teachers at Lowry. Read the next fire issue of The Brand to find out more dirt.
