It’s Christmas, not Xmas

Christmas is the most wonderful time of year. Not only because of the gifts, lights and beautiful Christmas trees, but because it’s such a joyful time for everyone to get together and celebrate with their loved ones. What are we all really celebrating though?

There are many different beliefs regarding Christmas. Whether it’s celebrating the birth of Jesus Christ, fasting, or just enjoying the time we spend with our families, everyone celebrates it differently.

Today, everything is based on the gifts that we give and receive. Sometimes we forget the main reason why we celebrate Christmas.

Religion is a touchy subject and it is frowned upon to discuss in schools. Little things like singing “Silent Night” or “Joy to the World” are considered religious, and are being banned in schools in New Jersey.  The word Christ is in the word Christmas for a reason.

Even in Winnemucca, elementary schools are starting to ban students from saying “Merry Christmas” and are being told to say “Happy Holidays” instead.

I think religion is okay to be talked about in schools, as long as it isn’t forced upon other people.

5-year-olds are being taught that speaking about their own religious beliefs in modern-day society is not okay. Freedom of speech is being denied to students and are getting the right to say what they want taken away.

Religion isn’t something that everyone wants to talk about, but even if they want to talk about it, they can’t.
