Another year, another state title

Another year, another state title

This season, the varsity girl’s basketball team fought hard in league games which rewarded them with attending the state championship once again.

During League play, they had an 8-2 record and were 22-6 overall. Both league losses were against Fernley. In the state championship game, it was Lowry against Fernley just like last year’s state championship game.

Savannah Stoker (22.2 ppg) and Britain Backus (20.1 ppg) lead the team and the league in scoring.

Although it ended with the big win there was still some trouble along the way.

“If I had to say a struggle it would be sickness and injuries during the season,” said Bryce Brinkerhoff.

Although, the injuries and sickness pushed the girls to be the best they could be.

“Even though we had a couple of girls who got hurt around the same time we were able to step up and fill their absence,” said Brinkerhoff.

Coach Chelsea Cabatbat also agreed that the girls worked and pushed through any struggles.

“We had the opportunity to go play some great teams in Idaho and really exposed our weaknesses,” said Cabatbat. “We came back and worked hard on our weaknesses.”

Being able to go to state again this year was a non-negotiable.

“Losing was not an option for this team and they came together to get two of the most important wins,” said Cabatbat.

The team gained another state title and more great friendships.

“We were all already pretty good friends before the season started,” said Britain Backus. “But being together every day we were able to make memories like winning state helped build it even more.”

The Bucks accomplished the state title by working hard every day.

“Through the whole season we were bettering ourselves and bettering our players as a team,” said Britain Backus.

Overall the team had a great season and was able to make history through hard work and dedication.

“I am so proud of this team they are an amazing group of girls who understood the assignment and made history,” said Cabatbat.
