Boys golf builds on success

The Lowry golf team began this season hoping to improve upon last year’s success, and they have done exactly that.

In 2011 they finished second in the state and received the Academic All-State Award. Coaching the boy’s golf team is Mr. Andrew Meyer who is in his first year at Lowry. Meyers speaks highly of his team and expects nothing but the best from them.

“Our team is doing awesome so far seeing that we’re undefeated. I feel the one thing we need to do is stay focused and not get overconfident. As a new coach I do not feel like I am disadvantaged, if anything I feel I have more of an advantage,” said Meyer.

The roster consists of 17 golfers for the 2012 season. Freshmen: Colton Black, Hunter Dimock, Blake Duncan, Andres Mendoza, Joshua Rose, Liam Sparks, and Ryan Rasmussen. Sophomores: Joseba Criswell, Ethan Gray, Dylan Gregersen, Jacob Jackich, Chris Mendoza, Joshua Shaver, and Braxton Paulsen. Juniors: Chris Dendary and Cole Erquiaga. Senior: AJ Ourada.

According to coach Meyer, he expects nothing less than a state championship. He says if they do not win it will be a great disappointment. With two sophomores, being Ethan Gray and Chris Mendoza doing extremely well this year Meyer said they help a lot and stand out.

“We have a very young, but an experienced team this year. As a runner-up last year our expectations are high, and we hope to get better as the season gets better and come home with a 12th state championship,” said Chris Mendoza.

This season so far seems to be on a very good track with several of the athletes having a great season last year, they expect another successful season.
