Mr. Dave Munk teaches musical arts, including percussion, choir, and band. He has worked diligently to improve the band program, and his work has been reflected in his students.
“I spend hours on end hunting for quality pieces of music for my students,” said Munk. “Not only at the high school, but I’ve been starting beginners at the middle school for years now.”
Martin Dockter plays trumpet in the band as well as sings in the audition choir. Recently, Dockter auditioned for the Allstate band and was accepted into the program.
“We actually haven’t had a student from Lowry make it into the all-state band in about 34 years,” said Munk.
“I’ve always loved music, and when I picked up the trumpet, it really just clicked,” said Dockter. “I was really lucky to get to play in groups that were far more capable than I was, and it really pushed me.”
Dockter, as well as his family, is incredibly proud of his achievements.
“Without my family, I would be nowhere near where I am today with music,” said Dockter. “My dad and my grandpa have especially pushed me to improve and have given me many opportunities to play at various events over the years.”
His family is incredibly supportive of his growing musical career, and this reflects on the quality of his performances.
