How volunteering brings the Buckaroos together

For Lowry High staff, volunteering makes the memories that they live for. The loving staff at Lowry show an encouraging amount of love for their students, which causes them to volunteer.

Mr. Brandon Eastman, volunteers for almost every home volleyball game.

“I think it’s fun, and I think that the students enjoy seeing teachers and community members involved,” said Eastman.

What Eastman loves most about being able to volunteer is the action up close.

“You definitely get the best seat in the house,” said Eastman.

Ms. Jessica Lindsay, a science teacher at Lowry shows her dedication to Lowry sports as well. Lindsay believes that even when not in the coaching aspect it is important to show up for her students.

“I make it a point to be a part of the school in a volunteer position, especially when a co-worker needs help,” said Lindsay.

Lindsay gets to teach and see her students from their student life, but she believes that it is more enjoyable to see them doing what they love.

“It’s so much fun to see everyone just do their thing and get into their element,” said Lindsay. “I have the privilege of seeing my students in class, but to see them get to do a sport and actually do their thing and shine, that’s what I enjoy most.”

Ms. Kelly Griggs has volunteered for Lowry for over 16 years and still volunteers for every game she can.

“The social aspect of volunteering is why I love to do it,” said Griggs. “Seeing the parents and being able to be there for the kids.”

Mr. and Mrs. Griggs have earned the Honorary Buckaroo Award for their dedication to Lowry.

“My favorite memories of volunteering would be awarded with the Honorary Buckaroo because it was really emotional to think of how much we were appreciated,” said Griggs.

Ms. Megan Maga, the head softball coach gives support to the sports she volunteers at in hopes for support when softball season comes around.

“I need to give back to other teammates and other teams on campus,” said Maga.

Maga started her volunteering journey in 2020 when she decided she wanted to attend more games.

“I enjoy being a part of the atmosphere, High School sports are important and they teach kids great things,” said Maga. “In order for them to learn these things and play they need volunteers to run things smoothly.”

Ms. Alexis Maga Mattson does her volunteering for the smiles she gets to see on her students’ faces.

“I volunteer to watch the kids have fun and being able to be a part of it,” said Maga Mattson.

Mr. Taylor Corak, a former Lowry High student enjoys giving back to the programs he played for once before.

“I enjoy giving back to the program that I was a part of when I was in school and giving back to the community, ” said Corak.

Corak enjoys building the memories of seeing his students do what they love to do.

“I like watching football and being able to see my students out on the field having fun,” said Corak.

The encouragement of the Lowry Staff at home games brings the students and staff together while each person builds memories.

Do you want to build memories too? Lowry is always looking for volunteers. Ask Mr. Austin Mayo (amayo@hcsdnv.com) or Mr. Ron Espinola (respinola@hcsdnv.com) to sign up and get involved at Lowry High.
