Coach Tawnya Root was hopeful for the new season as she welcomed newcomers and greeted former players who returned to the Lowry JV softball team.

“Both Coach Benny [Martinez] and I are excited for this season,” said Root. “We have some returners and a lot of new girls this season. We have focused our practices around situational defense, as there is a lot to learn in the game of softball. The girls are up for the task and fundamentally ahead of the team last year at this time. We are hopeful for a fun season working hard and pulling out some W’s.”

Root believes the current team is a step up from the previous year’s team. She knows that there is room for improvement and many things to learn in softball, but the team is very willing to learn and grow.

Lillian Plaisted is a member of the Lowry JV softball team and a sophomore. She is looking forward to the season and believes the open gyms assist in her ability to play softball.

“I’m personally excited for the season to start,” said Plaisted. “The open gyms help me to get back into shape before the season starts, and also let us get to know the people we will be around. I am ready for this season.”

Plaistead is grateful for the open gyms before the season begins and is confident in her team members.

Luna Alvarez is also a Lowry JV softball team member and a freshman at Lowry. She enjoys playing for the Bucks and is hopeful for her team.

“I feel like this season is going to be fun with the way we started off,” said Alvarez. “I’m very happy to be a part of the team.”

Alvarez is excited and hopeful for her upcoming season, as the first few games were successful.
