On Friday the Lowry wrestling team headed to Fernley to compete at one final invitational before Zone duals. The Fernley Invitational was the last tournament for the JV team.
Lowry finished first overall, with 311 team points. Spanish Springs finished second with 256 points. Carson, Reno High, and Pershing County rounded out the top five, respectively.
Eric Brooks, Daniel Pollock, Luis Cardenas, Michael Billingsley, and Aaron Nelson each placed first overall in their weight classes.
Junior Tytin Johnson placed fourth in the 195 weight class.
“I think I could’ve done better if I hadn’t let down at the end,” said Johnson.
Johnson had six matches and won four of the bouts.
“I just need to be more aware of what my opponent will do,” added Johnson.
Trace Bell, Blake Hillyer, Alec Mayo, and Micah Summers were the only members from JV to place within the top six.
“I placed sixth, but the team did really well overall,” said Mayo.
Zone duals will be held in Spring Creek this Friday and Saturday, January 25 and 26, for the varsity team.
