Marc’s favorite summer songs

As the school year SLOWLY creeps its way to the end and the thrills of summer are right around the corner, some people may be looking for some inspiration to get them into the summer spirit that we all enjoy so much. Look no further because here is a list of songs that are sure to put you in that laid back, take it easy, have some fun summer mood:

“All Summer Long” by Kid Rock – “It’s the simple things in life like when and where.” This song’s “Sweet Home Alabama” feel and summer vibe makes it a great song to listen to while chilling out on the lake enjoying the company of great friends.

“California Love” by Tupac – “California knows how to party,” simple as that. Sweet rhythm and party-hardy lyrics make it a great song to get loose to when the temperature goes up.

“Summer Nights” by Lil Rob – “Summer days just sitting around but when the sun goes down, I’ll be ready to party.” Ain’t nothing like them summer nights. This feel-good song talks about how every high school kid wants to spend his summer, kicking it all day and hanging out all night.

“Summer Breeze” by Seals and Crofts – “Sweet days of summer, the jasmine in bloom. July is dressed up, and playing her tune.” This 1972 hit has one of the most relaxing, carefree feels a song about summer can have, and who doesn’t like a “no worries’ type of summer?

“Electric Feel” by MGMT – Although this song has no reference to summer in it at all, MGMT made one of the funkiest songs of the decade. It’s fun to dance to, fun to relax to, and overall is great for all occasions.

“The Joker” by Steve Miller Band – “I’m a picker, I’m a grinner, I’m a lover, and I’m a sinner. I play my music in the sun.” The Steve Miller Band has made some classic songs in their time and “The Joker” is no different. Overall, it’s a great song to ride around and sing along to with a group of friends on a hot summer day.

“Knee Deep” by Zac Brown Band ft. Jimmy Buffet – “Wishin’ I was knee-deep in the water somewhere, got the blue sky breeze and it don’t seem fair the only worry in the world is ‘the tide gonna reach my chair?’” Zac Brown Band makes a lot of feel-good music and “Knee Deep” is a tribute to summer. Fishing and hanging out by the lake have got to be the two most relaxing activities during the summer and that’s what “Knee Deep” is all about.

“Can’t Stop” by Red Hot Chili Peppers – The Red Hot Chili Peppers are a SoCal band, so of course they make some great summertime music. “Can’t Stop,” along with plenty of other RHCP songs give off that summer vibe and are all around just great songs.

“When the Sun Goes Down” by Kenny Chesney & Uncle Kracker – “All day long just taking it easy, laying in a hammock where it’s nice and breezy….” Those lyrics alone sum up why this is a great summer song. (Kenny Chesney makes a lot of good summertime music if you didn’t already know.)

“Jammin’” by Bob Marley – Simple math: Bob Marley + Summer = Good summer. Enough said.

And if these songs don’t put you in that great summer mood, check out more music from these artists and artists like them. If that doesn’t do it for you, watch “Dazed and Confused,” the movie is great and the soundtrack is just as good. If that doesn’t do it for you, there’s something wrong with you.
