Movie Review: ‘Rock of Ages’

By Rylee Mathis Posted September 14, 2012

The movie “Rock of Ages” came out this summer and redefined musicals. This film, directed by Adam Shankman, re-mastered popular hit songs of the 70s and 80s. It combined rock n’ roll with comedy and dance numbers to create a unique spin on the traditional musical.

The movie wouldn’t be what it is without the actors and actresses chosen for the parts. Cherrie (Julianne Hough) and Drew (Diego Bonita) create chemistry that makes their young love feel real to the viewers. Alec Baldwin playing Dennis, a bar owner, and Russell Brand playing his goofy friend Ronnie were the ultimate dynamic duo with their witty dialogue.

The star of the movie, Tom Cruise, plays the part of Stacie Jaxx, a sensational rock star whose career might be coming to an end. The part is based on the singer from Guns n’ Roses, Axel Rose. Few who follow the work of Cruise still think of him as a charming, sexy guy; but he proved to audiences everywhere that he’s still got it.

The dynamite cast members and feel-good songs bring a smile to anyone’s face, whether you grew up with the music or you’re hearing it for the first time. If you haven’t seen it yet, put it on your To Watch list.
