Mrs. Laura Mercado, a history teacher at Lowry High has chosen a junior Ashley Ruiz from one of her Contemporary History classes as the Student of the Week.
Mercado appreciates how hard Ruiz has been working all year and continues to work very hard.
“Ashley has always worked hard in the class, but lately she has really stepped it up,” said Mercado. “She is always engaged in class and is a very thoughtful student.”
Mercado feels that Ruiz deserves some credit for her work ethic. She kept up very well with all of her work.
“During a recent research project Ashley went above and beyond with her analysis, poster, and presentation,” said Mercado.
Ashley was very happy that she was noticed. She likes reading books, listening to music, and anime, but she also enjoys school.
“What I like about school is just seeing people and putting my brain to work,” said Ruiz.
Ruiz feels that she could have worked even harder in History. She doesn’t feel like she deserves it but is very appreciative of this recognition.
“I was just really shocked that I was picked,” said Ruiz.
