Coach Brent Riemersma and Coach Levi Carl kicked off the season by traveling to Needles, California, where the team participated in a three-day tournament against Holtville, River Valley, Southwest EC, Palo Verde Valley, and Central.

According to senior Aidan Tregellas, so far the season has been off to a good start for a long journey. As an individual, he wants to take advantage of the learning opportunities to grow as an athlete.

“This baseball season has been a thrilling journey so far, filled with hard-fought games,” said Tregellas. “My goals for the rest of the season include improving my batting average, refining my fielding skills, and helping my team make it to the playoffs.”

The end goal is to reach the playoffs with his team and to learn from one another’s experiences, no matter the level of ability. Another senior player, Angus Boyles, would similarly like to see growth throughout the team as players and individuals.

“From what we saw this last weekend in Needles, we know we can be a good team if we can clean up the little mistakes and work together,” said Boyles. “My main goal is to make it to the postseason.”

In addition, with a little practice and motivation, the team will be able to reach its end goal of being a successful group of athletes.

“With pinstripes comes great responsibility,” said Riemersma. “The Lowry High Baseball Club is ready to take on that responsibility. Our captains, who consist of Jakob Bauman, Gabe Lange, Connor Peterson, and Aidan Tregalles, will hold us accountable from the start. Our pitching is deep, but still needs a lot of work if we expect to win games. Pitchers ReiCyan Grau, Angus Boyles, and Matthew Casalez will be the anchors we need to start the games off.

Coach Riemersma sees potential in his athletes and that specific players are capable of bringing great aspects to the team. Having a very thorough game plan from the beginning is acceptable, but being able to be flexible at times is a must as well.

“While at bat, the line-up includes Jakob Bauman, Erick Valencia, Bryce Niblack, Connor Peterson, Angus Boyles, Michael Heikkila, and Gabe Lange, who will lead the charge from the jump,” said Riemersma.

Even though the team is still getting to understand one another’s potential, they will need to learn to play as a team in order to be successful.

“We have a quick-handed and savvy defense that we hope holds teams at bay,” said Riemersma. “We have only been together for a couple of weeks, but our trip to Needles showed us we have a lot to clean up before we get to league play. Our goal is to work hard and finish this school year strong.”

This year’s team includes Erick Valencia, ReiCyan Grau, Connor Peterson, Aidan Tregallas, Zaq Growcock, Jayce Casalez, Kayd Garner, Gabe Lange, Eli Lange, Bryce Niblack, Jakob Bauman, Angus Boyles, Caleb Sanders, Jhett Harber, Michael Heikkila, and Matthew Casalez. The team is managed by Trevor Crawford and Austin White.
