Community service is a great way to learn more about different people and things in your community and could give you a better outlook on possible things you would like to do for the rest of your life. Many high schoolers tend to focus more on themselves during their four years of high school instead of helping out the community in some way. Not only will this benefit the people you are helping, but this will also benefit you in the long run in many different ways.
In Winnemucca, there are many different ways that you can help out in the community. There is a soup kitchen that is completely volunteer-based. It happens on Sundays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays. There is also a food bank that helps out with our homeless/unemployed people. Even visiting and talking to someone at the senior center or old folks home would completely change someone’s day. There are a lot of things that students can do and it would be beneficial to all involved.
And your service does not go unrewarded either. There are many things that you can learn from doing community service that can benefit students as they get into different jobs. First of all, community service gives you great “people skills”. While working voluntarily at various places you meet a lot of new people and learn how to work with a variety of different personalities. Good “people skills” would be beneficial in almost every single job in the workforce.
Another great thing about volunteering is that there are many different options to choose from. You basically get to choose where you want to work and when you want to work, to a certain extent of course. There are so many opportunities to help out the community and you get to decide when to do it.
The bottom line is, that community service is very beneficial in high school. It teaches you many things about how to work with different people and gives you a fulfilling feeling of knowing you’re helping someone. It is very encouraged to check out different places where you can do a community service that looks appealing to you. Not only that but colleges look for someone who has done some community service as well.
If that wasn’t enough to convince you to go do some community service, you can get good work experience from doing it. The variety that you can choose from can give you many different skills that you can use with different kinds of jobs which makes you an overall more versatile employee and widens your horizons for other job opportunities in the future.
