Winterfest was a fantastic week filled with fun events and dress-up days for Lowry.

On Monday, there was an assembly with students dressed up as characters from “Stranger Things”. The Lowry cheer team performed a dance routine and a stunt. Freshman Lilee Ham, who performed during the routine, thought it was fun to perform the routine her team had been practicing.

“It was fun to perform the stunts and the routine,” said Ham. “We spend a lot of time practicing these routines, and it can be difficult,” said Ham. “I do enjoy doing these performances for the school, though. It can be really fun.”

For Monday’s dress-up, Aana Deputy found the dress-up day to be fun.

“I wore neon for the day and it was fun to dress up like that,” said Deputy.

Tuesday’s dress-up day theme was “Grey’s Anatomy,” with students dressing up in doctor outfits. Senior Jacqueline Ojendiz felt that the dress-up day was fun. “Dress-up days are fun, and Grey’s Anatomy is a good show. Dressing up for it wasn’t that hard, and I wanted to participate in spirit week,” said Ojendiz. After school on Tuesday, there was a dodgeball tournament held in the old gym. Students could sign up with a team and compete in a dodgeball tournament. Several teams signed up for the tournament.

On Wednesday, students dressed up as “Friends” characters or in an 80s theme. Senior Maygan Robinson, inspired by a character, created an outfit.

“I really like the show ‘Friends’, so I thought this was a great opportunity to dress up,” said Robinson. “It didn’t really take much planning to make the outfit, I just went off of an outfit I remembered Phoebe wore.”

After school, a talent show was held in the auditorium. Students participated in the show to show off their skills and talents. The talent show winner was a band named “Los Plebes De Plata” with Angel Flores Cortez, Angel Barreto, and Blake Crutcher Godinez.

“We all met at a quinceañera and played the guitar,” said Barreto. “I’m glad that my hard work with my friends was able to pay off.”

Thursday’s dress-up day theme was “The Office,” and students dressed in formal/business attire. Junior Noah Garner had fun dressing up during Winterfest.

“Well, I like dressing up, so I decided to dress up throughout the week,” said Garner. “It was pretty fun.”

Friday’s assembly had a horse racing challenge where students and teachers competed in duos against other students and teachers. Students could dress up in blue and gold to represent the school colors. Freshman Lizette Aguilar liked the dress-up days and her outfit and makeup for Friday’s dress-up.

“I like how the dress-up days gave everyone a chance to try and match,” said Aguilar. “What I liked most about my outfit was my makeup because it was my first time trying it.”

During halftime of the boy’s varsity game on Friday, January 31, the Winterfest king and queen were announced and crowned. The nominees were Olivia Espinola, Allison Green, Makenna Garcia, Tanner Hatch, Jaden Jimenez, and Marcus Casalez . The Winterfest queen and king were Allison Green and Jaden Jimenez.

Lowry High School hosted its annual Winterfest dance on Saturday, February 1st, 2025. The dance was full of fun and spirit from the students. The dance was held in the new gym.

The dance was a great time for the students to dress up and have fun with friends or dates. Winterfest is a tradition at Lowry High School that many students look forward to after the long first semester.

Freshman Lilian Sampson found the dance fun and a good reason to shop. “The dance was fun, they had good music, and I like to get dressed for things, and that was a good excuse to get ready and buy a new dress,” said Sampson.

The dance is not only a good reason to have some fun shopping, it’s a good time to have fun with friends.

Sophomore Izayus Barajas found the dance fun as they have something new every year. “It was pretty cool. They do something new every year,” said Barajas. “Yeah, I would look forward to it next year. It’s fun to hang out with my friends.”

Junior Randy Patterson finds the dance fun to go to with friends and likes how long the dance has been going.

“The dance was fine,” said Patterson. “I go to be with friends and just have fun. It’s something that has been going on forever, too; it’s cool.”

Senior Grace Hill finds the dance to be something she enjoys.

“The dance is fun,” said Hill. “I’ve gone to it since freshman year. I will miss it, but it was fun the years I did go.”
