Between storms, boys’ golf gets ready for season

The boy’s golf season is just getting its start and players are looking forward to spending time with the team and beginning tournaments.

Coach Andrew Meyer is excited to work with new players who have joined this year and to have a good time with the team.

“There are a lot of younger kids so just getting them to enjoy the game is the goal,” said Meyer. “The fact that they brought the golf clubs out of the garage is a good start.”

Andrew Mendoza is a freshman, and although he has had experience with golf in the past, it is his first year taking it up as a competitive sport.

“I grew up playing with family and that’s where I got my start,” said Mendoza. “My goal this season is to make it to state.”

Another new player is sophomore Connor Blades. He has played golf in the past with family and enjoys being coached by Meyer.

“I chose to take up golf this year,” said Blades. “I’m hoping to work on my form throughout the season.”

The boy’s first chance to play out on the course was at their Ice-breaker on March 13. The ice-breaker gives new players the opportunity to learn the game and have fun with other teams.

Roster: Jack DeLong, Landon Esquivel, Maddex Hislop, Edward Jones, Andrew Mendoza, Tate Rost, Noah Saltmarsh and Skyler Slovernick.
