The team will have new coaches, Tawnya Root and Benny Martinez. She is excited to help these girls enter high school softball.

Root also coaches volleyball at Lowry and Martinez coached many years in the baseball program.

“I am really excited about this softball season,” said Coach Root. “I am excited to be out on the field again.”

Lily Plaisted is a new student at Lowry. She is a freshman and has played softball for most of her life. She can’t wait to bond with her new team and improve her skills.

“My goals this year are to fix some of the problems I had last year,” said Plaisted. “And to work better as a team with the girls.”

Coach Root’s goals for the season are simple. She hopes to teach these girls how to love the game and improve their skills. She is excited to help these girls on their softball journey.

“My goals for this season are to teach the fundamentals of the game, instill a love for the game within each of the girls, and have fun simultaneously,” said Coach Root.

Denise Carrillo is another new player this year. She has not played competitive softball, so she is excited to start her journey with her team.

“I am excited to play with the girls on the team,” said Carillo. “Almost all of them have played for a while and I hope they can help me improve throughout the season.”

This year’s JV softball team consists of 13 players, five returners from last year (Ludivynne Canales, Brenna Schiermeister, Kyra Schiermeister, Kira Wiley, and Fallon Fowler) and seven new players (Hazen Root, Tessa Jenkins, Riley Ball, Denis Carrillo, Lillian Plaisted, Shayne McMillin, Raquel Aguilar, and Charlotte Allan), who are all ready to do their best and improve their skills a well.
