Reasons to pursue careers

When advancing through high school, teenagers often find one topic they are extremely influenced or motivated by; they find their calling and intend to pursue this as a career path through college. Other individuals have no idea what to pursue as a major in college and they make a last-minute choice based upon pressure or what’s ‘cool’.

When unsure of what path to choose an individual should consider particular things that are important to them such as habits, hobbies, family, and interests. Personally, the human body and fitness interest me so I have decided to take classes in physical therapy and sports medicine/athletic training. After a year of being set on this career path, my mother was diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis. A life-long illness causing tremendous pain, deforming the body and eventually affecting an individual’s organs. Her particular case has evolved very quickly and as I looked into what could help her I noticed physical therapy kept coming up. This would be the personal and family-based aspect that is important to consider when choosing career paths.

I know I will be successful in this career path because not only do I have a strong interest in the subject, but I also have a reason to pursue it that continues to motivate me. Before you choose your career path, think deeper into why you chose it and whether you will be motivated to continue with it.
