Although they fought endlessly to secure the win, girl’s JV Basketball lost to Spring Creek 29-27 on Wednesday, January 27.

After receiving the tip, Lowry’s Hana Etcheverry wasted no time in driving up the court and shooting a successful short-range shot off an assist from Taylor Johnson. Spring Creek responded by scoring their first points of the game off a layup two minutes later.

Etcheverry was the only Lowry player to score again in the quarter, and Lowry trailed 5-4 going into the second quarter.

Other than another layup from Etcheverry in the second quarter, Lowry was slow to respond and the Spartans’ nine points went unanswered. With little over a minute left in the half, Johnson came through with a successful short-range shot. Lowry’s Samantha Arthur was able to put up two more points before the half making the score 15-10.

The second half played host to a vicious game of tug-of-war as the lead was bumped from one team to the other. Even though Etcheverry contributed three points in the last minutes of the game, Lowry saw their lead stolen away after Spring Creek successfully shot four free throws leaving the final score at 29-27.

Etcheverry led the Bucks with 17 points, followed by Arthur with four, Johnson with three, Alexis Alarcon with two, and Carli Evatz with one.

The Lady Bucks will next face off against Truckee in an away game on January 29.
