After their 6-week season last year Lowry’s varsity softball players are excited to start the season. This year the team will be able to have a full season including both regionals and state.

Kadence Cooney, a senior, has been on the varsity team since her sophomore year. She is a pitcher and works to be a leader for the team.

“What I’m looking forward to the most is hoping to continue our success from last year, and as a pitcher hopefully help lead our team to a state title,” said Cooney.

Shelbie Hoyt is a junior who has been on the team since her freshman year. She has been playing softball since she was really young and is always striving to be better.

“I’m excited because last year we weren’t able to finish our season and we are coming into the season with some great players,” said Hoyt.

Coach Austin Mayo has been on the coaching staff for seven years and has been the head coach for four years. He has great expectations for the team and pushes each and every player to be the best they can be.

“I am excited every year to see how our team is going to meld and what our strengths and weaknesses are,” said Mayo. “Every team is a little different and it always takes a little bit to figure things out.”

Their goal this year is to win state just as it is every year. The team will work together to gain trust so they can work together.

The team will kick off their season on March 4 at a tournament in Chico, California.
