On Tuesday, November 10 the Lowry concert band held its Veteran’s Day and Halloween Concert. The band performed six different songs including Veteran’s Day and Halloween-related songs.
Percussionist Liam Walls said, “I think it went pretty well. There were a few little mistakes but it still went well.”
The band is conducted by Paul Criddle who had to stop after the first two songs to honor all the veterans in attendance. Each veteran announced their name and which branch of the military they were a part of and they received a round of applause for their service.
After the honoring of the veterans, the band proceeded to play “The Virtuous and the Brave” and “When Honor Prevails” as a tribute to Veteran’s Day. The band then performed their Halloween music to wrap up the concert. It played “The Witching Hour” and a song from the film scores of Danny Elfman.
Preparing for a concert takes a lot of effort on the part of the musicians.
“[It] just takes practice. Sight reading music takes a lot of practice, for me anyway,” said Walls.
Toward the end of the concert, Criddle also announced the band’s plan to go to Disneyland was approved and it will be doing numerous fundraisers such as putting on a dance and selling popcorn to raise the money to go.
