Spring is officially in session with the varsity boys baseball team back in action. This year’s team consists of mainly returning players and shows a lot of potential with the new players.

The returning players include Jesse Studebaker (So.), Dusty Kraft (Sr.), Mitch Pollock (Sr.), Anders Pace (Sr.), Josh Yost (Sr.), Jace Billingsley (Jr.), Gus Duncan (Jr.), Bryan Noble (Jr.), and Brandon Eastman (Jr.). The new players include Michal Arenas (So.), Tyler Brumm (So.), Daniel Pollock (So.), Mark Linnell (Jr.), and Alex Nimmick (Jr.).

“With the experience that we have returning and the addition of players up from JV, we should have a strong team with a lot of depth,” said head coach Ron Espinola.

The baseball team is looking to improve on their performance from last year’s season and make it to the playoffs with this much talent on their team. However, this will not be an easy task for the Buckaroos, seeing that their competition like Battle Mountain and Elko are looking to make it to Vegas as well. There are also new competitors like West Wendover and White Pine in Lowry’s league this year which could pose some adversity for the Buckaroos.

“The success this year will be dependant on if the players can get over the hurdles that they stumbled on last year,” said coach Espinola.

The reason that Espinola says this is because last year at the playoffs the Buckaroos were defeated by a Dayton team that they had beat in a three-game series earlier in the season. The Bucks are well on their way to making a run at the playoffs with a 5-1 league record and they are looking to improve their overall record the next time they are in action with a few wins in Elko on April 16.
