Looking back at ‘Evolve’

“Evolve” has been going down in sales and price by a landslide. This game has been performing poorly in sales because people didn’t like it. Those who have not played the game cannot truly jump to conclusions. This game has been out for over a year and just from playing it you can see there was a lot of thought put into it.

The story behind this game is that there are four hunters sent out to kill a rampaging monster in a specific facility. You can play as a hunter or a monster.

The main downfall is how hard it is to win as the monster. As the monster you only have one life and you have to evolve while being tracked down; if you can’t stay hidden and leave a minimum amount of tracks then you are going to have a lot of trouble getting a win.

As hunters, you get great weapons, perks, and three lives. As you go on in this game, you can upgrade and unlock new hunters to use. Each different character has a loadout that can not be changed other than the skin of the weapons. There are four hunters in a team, each has a different class with a different purpose. The tracker will have a pet that can track down the monster. The tracker can also put down an arena to trap the monster; the only way for the monster to get out is for the tracker to turn the arena off, the tracker is knocked down, or the energy in the arena runs out. The tracker can also put down alarms or traps to grab the monster.

Another class is assault. This class is used to fight the monster in close-quarters combat and can punch using a shield. As an assault, you can get a weapon for close range like a grenade launcher, a flamethrower, or an electric rail gun. The assault can also place mines to surprise attack the monster and deal great damage.

Another great class is support. The main weapon is a laser gun, the second weapon is a machine gun. The support class is used to provide the team with armor and, if needed, use its cloak ability. The great thing about this class is it has many different character load-outs, but the real main weapon to use is the airstrike that can launch missiles or fire a giant laser.

The last class is medic which is used for basic medical duties. For example, as a medic, you can revive downed players faster than other teammates. You would also be responsible for healing the characters. As for the weapons you would use, you would have a submachine gun as your second gun, and for a primary, you would use a sniper. This sniper rifle can break through monsters’ armor and make a weak spot for you and the other characters to shoot at. Shooting these areas would not just deal slightly more damage but also steer the monster’s punches and where he runs.
As a monster, you also have a large variety of monsters to select from. Most of these monsters will cost $25 but you can unlock four default monsters: the Goliath, Meteor Goliath, Kraken, and the Wraith. Each monster has a different ability that each monster can use to its advantage.

This game may not have a full campaign to it, but they have added a mix of a campaign to it by releasing missions. This will all lead up to one big battle that will have rapidly spawning monster minions. To win as a monster, you must destroy several generators and a fueling station for a ship. To get to this fueling station you must destroy one generator at a time and open the doors to the station. As for a hunter, you must defend the generators for a specific amount of time or you must destroy the main monster.

“Evolve” has few game modes but they make up for that in the massive maps. These maps can make a match last longer than someone would usually expect. This game gives you a whole new experience for only $20 and will give you a great new look at games in general.
