Mel Gibson’s latest production is a success

Another outstanding film, Hacksaw Ridge, is based on the true story of a WWII hero, Desmond D. Doss. He was a United States Corporal who served as a combat medic. He also left his first love, soon-to-be fiancee, to serve his country. During his time in Okinawa, Japan, he ended up saving seventy-five men who were thought to be dead. On top of that, he was at the bloodiest battle at that time and he didn’t even touch a firearm. He goes through his army training, doing everything everyone else did, except shoot a gun. Due to his immense religious beliefs as well as a promise he makes, he shoots no bullets; yet he survives the nights and gruesome days that followed. No one believed in him because he would refuse to lay a finger on a rifle. His nickname in training camp was “Does the Coward”. Doss’ father was also a veteran and in the movie it shows how much he was scarred by it. When Doss breaks it to him that he won’t be taking lives; he’ll be saving them, it still worries him. As it would for any parent.

This is a great movie for anyone who enjoys a bit of romance, comedy, action and suspense bundled into one. Not to mention that it’s based off of a true story; that makes it more interesting once you watch it.
