The biggest and best play of the year is coming up, the children’s play. This year Lowry Drama and Stagecraft presents “The Jungle Book”. The play is based on the book by Rudyard Kipling, which was made into an animated movie by Disney in 1967 and was recently remade.

“I play Raksha, the mother wolf that raises Mowgli. Surprisingly, the Jungle Book isn’t about a book. It’s about a human boy raised by animals in the Jungle. Mowgli’s father is killed by Sher Khan so he is raised by a pack of wolves, but as he gets older Sher Khan searches for him to kill him and Mowgli becomes one with the jungle and its inhabitants,” said Kinley Carlson.

Months have gone into preparing for the big show and it’s coming together nicely.

“It’s going to be an amazing play. We’re already on track and we’re going to have fun with it. I can’t wait to act like an animal onstage,” said Erick Zamora.
The audience will be immersed in the jungle.

“The jungle is spectacular. I feel like I’m in a real jungle every day,” said Jacob Hernandez.

The performances will be spread out over five days with 3-night performances. It will start on Sunday, March 12 with a matinee show at 1 p.m. The following Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday, March 13-15, there will be a night performance starting at 7 p.m. each night. Seating will start at 6:30. All of those performances are open to anyone in the community to attend. The drama and stagecraft students will also be out of school all day Monday through Thursday doing performances for the schools throughout Winnemucca. They will be doing three daytime performances every day. By the end, the students will have performed 16 times.

“I love being on stage with my drama family, especially with my panther. Sadly, it’s our last children’s play, but we seniors are going to make it incomparable to any other performance Lowry has ever had. So come watch us,” said Nate Chapman who will fill the role of Mowgli.
