By Maddi Rose Posted November 14, 2014

“Salem” is an American historical fantasy drama, about the Salem witch trials. It is based mostly on “The Crucible;” the show has many of the same characters such as Tituba, the witch who controls Mary. Mercy Lewis also from “The Crucible,” a girl once tormented by Mary Sibley’s witchcraft, also appears in the show.

Throughout the first episode, Mary is not married but is expecting, which is a big no-no in Salem. John Alden, the father of the baby goes off to war and has to leave Mary. The burden of having a baby out of wedlock forces Mary to do the unthinkable.

Later in the episode, Mary thinks that her love had died in war, and marries the town’s richest man, George Sibley. A couple of years after the marriage, John comes back to Salem to find a big witch hunt, which Mary plans to use to have all the Puritans kill each other, so she can rule Salem. This goes on all through the season.

This show aired on Netflix, and the next season was aired on May 15, 2014. The second season is already on Netflix. Salem averaged 7.2 out of 10 on IMDB.
